the twin oaks method

A gentle, integrated approach to movement, balance, and vitality for everyday life

I’m Sue Brian, and I created the Twin Oaks Method to make movement and wellness simple and gentle, improving joint mobility and balance while helping adults build confidence in everyday activities, deepen body awareness, calm the nervous system, and cultivate a deeper sense of inner peace and vitality.

Whether you’re just curious, ready to start practicing Qigong and/or B.A.S.I.C.S.+, or interested in going deeper into the foundational concepts and inspiration behind the work, there’s something here for you.

Much like my classes, this space meets you where you are.

I invite you to browse, skim, or go deeper at your own pace.

Qigong classes are taught in the Holden Qigong style. The Twin Oaks Method reflects how I integrate Qigong across B.A.S.I.C.S.+, Pickleball Warm-Ups, and Wellness Coaching.

My gentle and easy to follow classes are designed to help you:

  • Improve balance and stability

  • Release tension in your neck, back, hips, and shoulders

  • Gently strengthen coordination, focus, and mind-body connection

  • Build strength and mobility at a pace that feels good

  • Reduce stress and calm your nervous system

  • Move with ease at any age or fitness level

  • Support whole-body wellness in just minutes a day

Having had rheumatoid arthritis since childhood, I have tried so many (so many!) things in hopes of getting some pain relief and slowing the progression of joint deterioration that I thought, "why not see what these classes are all about?" …So, I started attending the classes. Sue's fun and calm encouragement kept me coming back and then one day, after only a couple of classes, I walked to my car and noticed my severe ankle pain wasn’t there, what?! I’ve continued taking the classes, and doing her suggested homework, and my ankles have been feeling really good. I’m back to taking walks with my husband. I would highly recommend these classes to anyone who wants to take back their health!

When I complete a full session from the online classes, I feel an innate sense of peace, knowing I’ve done self-care for the day that will serve me into the future….The classes are easy to follow, and even the short videos are incredibly beneficial. I’m so grateful to have been introduced to Sue and love incorporating Qigong into my life.

…I value the variety of recorded session lengths, and focus areas (love the getting ready for sleep sessions and getting ready for the day sessions). My body, mind, and spirit feel more connected and alive during and after sessions. I look forward to both the live and recorded Qi Gong sessions. Qi Gong stretches and strengthens areas of my body that have not always been attended to. It feels so good! Sue is a gentle and knowledgeable teacher.

I think of Qigong as the “third way,” having practiced both yoga and Tai Chi. In the no-stress Qigong class, the slow, relaxed movements with intentional breathing are, for me, the perfect end-of-the-week wind down. I look forward to it each Friday evening. Sue is wonderful at explaining and modeling the moves and making everyone feel at ease.

I find Sue’s Qigong classes to be the perfect start to my day, a calm way to awaken my body with just the right amount of cardio. I appreciate learning how the various exercises support my body and the intention behind the movements. I’m so grateful I can enjoy all of this from the comfort of my home.

  • Christine M

After just the first Qi Gong class I noticed a significant improvement in my energy levels and overall well-being. The personalized approach and holistic focus on mind-body harmony have been invaluable in helping me manage the  stress and enhance my vitality.

  • Sarah P

I’ve done Tai Chi and yoga and enjoyed both, but I really appreciated the fluidity and flexibility of Qigong. I wasn’t worried about memorizing or keeping up. Being in class was like taking a rejuvenating bath. The practice was shaped to the season (fall), with explanations of how the movements were affecting the organs. On top of feeling buoyant and energized afterward, I learned a lot. I’m looking forward to my next class.

“I highly recommend taking Sue’s amazing classes. Sue delivers an inviting calm and engaging supportive energy leaving her classes with joy and inner peace to your daily life as it has for mine.”

[…] I walked into Sue’s class and everything just clicked. It’s often the only moment during a busy week where I get to slow down and feel grounded… and I walk away feeling like my body and mind got just what they needed. Her explanations are so intuitive. Sue is encouraging but also gives students just the right amount of guidance to help their form […]

I took the Friday afternoon Qigong class, and what a great way to start the weekend. Qigong is like meditation in motion, it helps quiet the mind while energizing the body. Sue is an excellent instructor who explains everything clearly and makes the class super fun.

  • Ina S

[…] I started taking Sue’s B.A.S.I.C.S. class in early July 2025 as I had a lot of shoulder and neck pain due to 2 compressed cervical vertebra. After the very first class, the pain was much alleviated for at least 4 days. It felt like a miracle! I have continued to enjoy her class to this day, and I would recommend it to anyone trying to build strength, flexibility and manage aging well.

Qigong has been a new experience for me… Since I regularly work on strength, balance, and play pickleball often, I was looking for something softer with breathwork, stretching, and relaxation. Qigong has been a wonderful complement, and Sue’s classes leave me feeling refreshed, relaxed, and full of fresh energy.

Sue is magical!  She gets your energy flowing in order for you to feel vibrant and healthy in the most gentle and informative manner.  I love taking live zoom classes with Sue.  I learn something new every class. And, I'm so grateful that her classes are recorded so I can go back to them again and again.

  • Susan M

…Working with Sue has been absolutely essential to getting back on a positive life path. Her sincere and authentic wish to not only help me heal, but to thrive and move forward, has been life-changing for me…. Learning Qigong practices like breathwork, movement, healing sounds, and meditation has helped me immensely

Sue Brian is a great teacher, warm, witty, and relatable. I have been taking her classes for the past year, both in person and on Zoom, once or twice a week.... Her classes are constantly evolving and never boring. I especially recommend her 8am Zoom, the perfect peaceful, empowering way to start your day.

[In B.A.S.I.C.S.+], “Sue uses gentle yoga stretches, flexibility and strength/balance exercises plus eye and brain coordination activities, all in a small class setting. She explains what each movement does for our bodies and always encourages us to do the right amount of work for ourselves at this time.

Highly recommend! I feel better after each class.”
